Shana Tova and Eid Mubarak
Olive | September 30, 2008
The new years of the Jewish and Muslim calendars coincided this year - Rosh HaShana, the Jewish New Year, fell this year on September 29th. Through most of September, Muslims observed Ramadan, the holiest month of the year, culminating in the Eid Ul Fitr—on September 30th.
Rosh HaShanah and Ramadan share more similarities than just their dates this year. Both holidays are a time of reflection and renewal, a time to examine the year past and prepare for the year ahead.
This coincidence has a special resonance for Olive Cooperative, as an organisation dedicated to reflection on the situation and practical efforts towards a renewal of hope, justice, peace and sustainable futures for the people in Palestine and Israel. We would like to wish everyone Shana Tova and Eid Mubarak, and best wishes for the coming year.
