Olive Oil

Olive Co-operative sells high-quality, fair-traded, pesticide-free Palestinian olive oil supplied by Zaytoun. We supply this in large or small quantities in the Manchester and Liverpool areas, and in small quantities by mail order via our shop.

All of Zaytoun’s oil is extra virgin, first cold pressed, organically grown and fairly traded. The oil sourced through Sindyanna of Galilee is organic certified. The oil sourced through Canaan, PARC and UAWC is in conversion organic. Our suppliers source the oil from cooperatives in the areas of Salfit, Tulkarem, Nablus, Jenin and the Galilee.

If you are looking for olive oil suppliers outside the North-West of England, please visit Zaytoun’s own website at www.zaytoun.org

Why olive oil?

olive treesAgriculture forms a major part of the Palestinian economy; 65% of Palestinian families live in rural areas and are connected to agriculture in some form. Olive oil is the backbone of Palestine’s agricultural economy. It is a vital source of income for some 70,560 Palestinian farmers who, since the start of the 2000 intifada, have risked their lives in order to pick their olives.

The Israeli government is effectively destroying rural livelihoods by confiscating or denying access to land, uprooting trees, controlling water resources and obstructing trade, all of which are escalating as the building of the Separation Wall progresses. The occupation severely impedes the movement of goods and people, resulting in Palestinian farmers facing acute problems with selling their oil outside the domestic market.
This is where you come in! To order fair trade olive oil, contact the Olive Co-operative office or visit our e-shop to purchase other products.
