Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children, a registered Palestinian NGO located in Gaza city, has been working in the field of deaf education and allied services since 1992. Its work is supported by Atfaluna Crafts Boutique, which produces unique hand-crafted products made by deaf women and men in the Gaza Strip. Atfaluna’s work provides jobs and much needed hope for hundreds of needy deaf persons and their families.
Literally thousands of deaf children and adults and their families are served annually at Atfaluna through deaf education, audiology, speech therapy, income generating programmes for the deaf, vocational training, parents’, teachers’ and community training and awareness programs, and a host of other services and programs. 270 children at pre-school, primary, and middle school levels are provided with a deaf academic education.
Sadly Olive Co-operative has been unable to import from Atfaluna for a number of years as a result to the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has made it extremely difficult for organisations and individuals to get anything through the borders in either direction. This has caused immeasurable economic hardship in Gaza and prevented internationals supporting organisations there in a sustainable way, through trade not aid. Consequently Olive has only one or two Atfaluna items remaining in stock. We hope to be selling more Atfaluna produce in the near future and will keep our customers updated.
