Welcome the First Generation of Canaan Scholarship Recepients

Canaan Fair Trade is pleased to announce the first generation of Canaan Scholarship recipients. The Canaan Scholarship Award Committee has released the award recipients of the First Annual Canaan Scholarship Award. Canaan Fair Trade is a mission-based Palestinian fair trade company located in Jenin, Palestine that buys and exports agricultural goods from a pool of Palestinian farmers organized within the Palestine Fair Trade Association (PFTA) www.palestinefairtrade.org in Jenin. In order to fulfill its commitment to empowering rural communities in Palestine, Canaan Fair Trade has developed the Canaan Scholarship Award http://canaanfairtrade.com/scholarships .
Ten students from the 2007 class of Palestinian high school graduates will be the first individuals to receive this award. Recipients of this award are students whose parents are members of the Palestine Fair Trade Association (PFTA). The Committee considered a number of factors in selecting this year's recipients, including academic performance, their personal essay, family education, and economic hardship based on family income and the financial burden of having siblings in college. Priority for these scholarships is given to students whose parents never attended the university in order to increase educational access of marginalized Palestinian youth.
The Canaan Scholarship Award covers the full cost of tuition through graduation within four years. Award recipient will be required to spend the summer holidays as interns serving in PFTA development programs where they will gain first-hand experience in social and economic development.
The Canaan Scholarship Committee is confident in this year's recipients promising academic performance and commitment to serve their communities. The list of award recipients along with name of institution they will attend and their intended course of study as follows:
